KALYNN CAMPBELL

Artist - Illustrator - Creative Director

I cut my creative teeth as one of the earlier artists in the Lowbrow/Kustom Kulture/Pop Surrealist movement of the late 80’s/early 90’s. As a fine artist in the movement (besides a plethora of gallery shows) my work has been featured in over ten books - countless magazines - and has graced the walls of six museum shows.

Awards include a visual arts grant from the city of Los Angeles Transportation Commission’s ‘Art For Rail Transit’ project.

For many years I worked as a freelancer in the music industry, forging a name for myself with projects for bands like Megadeth, Face To Face and Smashing Pumpkins (to name just a few), and working with labels like Capitol Records, Warner Brothers and punk-rock champion Epitaph Records. Prior to that I was Art Director at Hobie and Morey Boogie, overseeing the surfing and sport themed t-shirt division - and for several years was the Assistant Art Director at BRC in Hollywood (clients included Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Zappa & Billy Idol).

Through it all, I worked as an outsider cartoonist for Paul Krassner’s THE REALIST magazine (one of my biggest honors in life). In the fall of 2017, Fantagraphics Books released a hardback book documenting the THE REALIST cartoons, the bulk of the last chapter features my work.

Under the banner of Roulette Studios, I’ve worked on projects covering the creative gamut - from full illustration, spot & icon art, hand lettering, logo design & branding to digital art creation - the list goes on and on. For me personally, art is not only a passion, it is my life, so no project is too large or too small.

Personal 'vanity' art projects include the creation of ‘art stamps’ (I designed and built a one-of-a-kind stamp perforating machine for the project - ‘Magena Post’), etching, and a web cartoon based on the superstitions of luck. I’m also a photographer, having professionally shot concerts and commercial images for many years.

Additionally, my work has graced a long line of 'Kalynn Campbell' signature products - from t-shirts & lighters to blue-tooth phones and guitar straps - even bowling balls. (My designs could be a good fit for your product - feel free to inquire for image licensing).
